Inversion tables were quite popular in the 80抯, but then they fell into the
background as other treatments for relieving back pain replaced them. However
recently they have begun to resurface into popular treatments for back
pain.
Regardless of the skepticism and division in the medical community
over the effectiveness of inversion tables, you can抰 argue with the countless
testimonials from people claiming that inverting has significantly reduced or
even eliminated their back pain.
Not only has inverting helped to ease
their back pain, but many also report less stress on their joints, improved
posture, strengthened abdominal muscles, and of course other general benefits of
exercise.
But despite all of these benefits, many people remain reluctant
to use an inversion table despite the many benefits. Here are a couple of the
main objections and some tips to overcome them:
Fear of Falling
If
you抮e going to be hanging upside-down or near upside-down on a strange device, I
can understand your fear. However, if you get the right inversion table then
there really isn抰 much to fear at all.
Seek out a quality inversion table
that has a good reputation for quality and can easily support your weight and
you really have very little to worry about.
When you get your inversion
table, be sure to check over it to make sure that everything seems right before
using it. If something is out of place, or you don抰 understand part of the
assembly instruction, make sure to contact the manufacturer.
Fear of
Dizziness
Another common concern is the fear that being inverted will
cause nausea or dizziness--maybe you might even black out!
It is true
that being inverted can trigger other medical conditions, so if you know you
have any other sort of condition, be sure to consult with your healthcare
provider before using inversion therapy.
However, it is recommended that
you start inversion slowly. Many people begin only inverting 15 or 20 degrees to
begin with. As you become accustomed to the inversion, you can increase the
angle until you find one that works best for you.
Fear of Looking
Stupid
Of course no one wants to look stupid. It would be horrible to get
this strange contraption only to have it not work for you. Then you have to see
it everyday in your house and your friends will ask you about it when they come
over.
Well, this again all goes back to selecting the right manufacturer.
Any decent manufacturer will have a reasonable return policy. I抳e even seen
return policies that last as long as 5 years.
But if you select an
inversion table that is well made and has a good return policy, there really is
nothing to risk. Let抯 be honest here, you抣l never know with certainty if
inversion therapy will work for you or not until you actually try it out for
yourself.
Isn抰 it worth the risk to get rid of your back pain and a happy
pain-free life again?
